Today Akirasora, Ihasnotomato, and I (Mabeanie) played some Minecraft together on a Realm to make sure that nobody was having connection issues or anything. This has stopped us in the past, so it was important not to get too excited before recording. Now that we've got that test out of the way, we have scheduled time on the 18th of September to have our first session with all three of us for the first time since 2015 and Metroid 2. That's a little surprising. Liam and I have each made series with Frank, but not the three of us.
Minecraft will be the first indefinite series that we've started since our original attempt in 2012. All of us will be recording and the views will switch between us depending on what is most interesting at any particular instant.
Liam and I have also decided what game will succeed Twilight Princess, but of course we won't reveal it until a) we have recorded it, and b) the first episode is published. We will run three episodes of us playing Worms and then the next series will start.
That's everything, and hopefully it all goes nicely and we don't have any trouble.
Yesterday we recorded the ends of Hollow Knight and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. Stephanie smashed through editing the Twilight Princess episodes today and I've worked out that the last episode will go up on the 2nd of October. I don't know when Hollow Knight will finish, but it depends on how the episodes go. She does try to cut the episodes down a bit so that they're just the good parts.
Anyway, the main concern for us is what will run alongside Minecraft. We have discussed my idea of doing Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005) where Liam plays and I be the expert. We have also talked about doing Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but we don't like playing games from franchises immediately after one another, so we've never done it. We could of course return to Borderlands 2 or 3. Those series were good when they last ran. It's not immediately concerning, because we have about a month to work out what we're going to do. I'll give it a few days before I give Liam a list of what we could do. I am very keen on doing another I.M. series at least. It's been good for my mental health, spending time with friends.
Quick update to let you know that Liam and I recorded Hollow Knight and Twilight Princess yesterday. He suggested that if I'm so excited about doing a Minecraft series, we can run one at the same time as the other two. Stephanie is excited to get these episode edited, so we should see a continuous run of videos for the next month or two. I'm certainly intent on making sure that we have lots of content for the rest of the year at least.
Mabeanie here to update you on what's been going on at SAIM. First of all we did run Hollow Knight and Civ 5 for a few weeks. Frank and I recorded more Civ 5 and finished the game, then we ran out of finished episodes of Civ 5, and Hollow Knight ran out a few weeks later. So at the moment we're waiting for the final batch of Civ 5 episodes to be edited and scheduled, and Liam and I have a Hollow Knight and Twilight Princess session set for the 27th.
I expect that we will see Hollow Knight and Civ 5 be uploaded until the latter runs out, and then Twilight Princess will replace Civ 5.
You may wonder what will come of future content with Frank, and to that I have an exciting answer; Minecraft.
Anybody who has gone back to some of our older videos may be aware that our first videos and original intentions for SAIM Industries were Minecraft content. I have been working on a word document with a decent list of things that I would like to build or do with Frank and Liam in our Minecraft series. It is quite fitting that we would return to the game around the time of our 10 year anniversary, but I think that with our current series being long games it might be a stretch to say that Minecraft will happen in 2021. We will have to wait and see.
At the moment, my working title ideas are as follows:
The SAIM but different Minecraft series.
Anything that uses the SAIM initials.
I also think it would be fun to introduce each session with a different take on what SAIM stands for.
This new Minecraft series for me comes at a time of nostalgia for my own Minecraft series, and so much of what I want to happen in the SAIM series comes from the experience of making those series, the three episodes of Adventures In Minecraft (AIM), and my experiences of playing the game.
Sorry for the delay, but we do have plans for lots of great content for the rest of 2021.
We at SAIM Industries are determined to make the next six months of social isolation due to the current pandemic a positive time.
First of all, because Ihasnotomato and I (Mabeanie) record Hollow Knight and Twilight Princess together in person, we will put both series on haitus until the pandemic ceases. This will start once we run out of episodes from the last recording session. We are taking this very seriously.
Secondly, Akirasora will hopefully join me in doing an A.M. Industries series of Civilization 5.
Ihasnotomato will get to do whatever PC series he wants with either the three of us or himself and either myself or Frank (Akirasora). We will be doing mix and matching of different combinations of game and hosts to turn this period of social isolation a positive period for SAIM Industries. Bringing Frank back into the mix will be a hugely positive thing for us, as we started the group with him.
We will post further updates if our plans change. Frank is in the United States of America and is in social isolation, like we are strongly encouraged to do in Australia.
Yesterday we had another recording session. It was for the Hollow Knight SAIMstralia Day Special, but Ihasnotomato had a new idea. Not only would we be recording the special, but it would also serve as the hour-long first episode of a new series replacing the Borderlands games. He's tired of playing Borderlands and wants to do something else for a while.
Beginning this week, we will be running Twilight Princess and Hollow Knight as our two series. This also ends our PC Gaming Series because Hollow Knight is being played on the Nintendo Switch and so both of our series are now console games. This might make things a bit messy when we eventually finish Twilight Princess or Hollow Knight, because either game could have whatever we feel like as the successor game. We will deal with this when we come to it.
Anyway, I am happy with the quality of all upcoming Twilight Princess and Hollow Knight episodes. We talk about some interesting stuff and the gameplay is quite good as well.
Just a quick post to let you know that we will be returning to Borderlands 2 in place of 3 starting next week. We will also post our sixth consecutive annual SAIMstralia Day Special in which we will play Hollow Knight, which was made where we live in Adelaide, South Australia!
Usually it's not easy to find an Australian-made game to play for the special, but we have a few choices this year and we've organised a day, which just happens to be Australia Day itself.
We at SAIM Industries hope you're having a good time. Obviously we haven't posted any videos so far this year, but that's because we're real-life human beings who have stuff going on. I (Mabeanie) have been doing the working a proper job thing while Ihasnotomato has been reorganising his life into a format that he's happy with. Further detail on the latter is found in a blog post on Tomato's Patreon if you have a dollar to spare. Otherwise you can wait for the Twilight Princess episode in which we talk about our resolutions for 2020.
This brings me to the next point. We did have a recording session in which we recorded some more Twilight Princess. Tomato also told me that there is more Borderlands 3, but he's been reorganising his life like I said, so bear with us while we get ourselves sorted for the long year ahead.
Stephanie's on holiday at the moment, timing it perfectly alongside our real life dilemmas. Some time in the next few weeks, we'll get back into regular uploads. Hopefully we'll find a game to do for Australia Day and also set aside time for recording it. This would be our sixth consecutive annual SAIMstralia Day Special.
Meanwhile, SAIM's step-sister Pickle-Shaped Peanuts is uploading videos every Saturday and it features Mickell Pickell and Angrove playing V8 Supercars 3. Their dynamic is awesome and hilarious. I orchestrated the whole thing.
If you don't care for off-brand SAIM Industries, I have been posting content on my Mabeanie Talks channel every Wednesday in a series with Ihasnotomato called Mab and Tom, in which we talk about stuff. No limits really. We talk about me and my YouTube work, but also about anything else. When I don't have a Friday afternoon shift and the house isn't too noisy, I record myself yelling at video games and being philosophical in my long-running show Friday Night Fun on Mabeanie Games. The video quality is intentionally bad because I don't want to wait 5 hours for a HD render of me sucking at video games for 50 minutes.
Anyway, check those out and if not we'll see you in the comments of Borderlands 3/Twilight Princess soon enough!
Mabeanie here a with a big load of numbers for you.
2019 was indeed a good year. We gained 44 subscribers, currently sitting at 277. We got 3035 views and 241 likes, which puts 2019 into the all-time top three years for SAIM. Keep in mind that we've been operating this channel since 2012. 3035 views is third best behind 2015 with roughly 3900 and 2018 with 3500.
From the picture that I've put up the top there, we've been steadily improving from a shocking 2016. We actually did a review video for that year. Here it is:
While we haven't had lots of comments like in years before, at 121 compared to 144 and 132 the last two years, we've loved the engagement from those who have commented and I've made the effort to reply to all comments that I thought deserved some kind of response. That is, I replied to most of the comments.
Also I don't know if YouTube is broken, and it almost certainly is, but the demographics find us at 100% female audience. So that's almost certainly wrong. We had 0% in 2018 and 6% in 2017.
We posted roughly the same amount of videos as last year with 174. It's been a pretty chill year in terms of content, with Mario Sunshine, Metroid Fusion, Mario Odyssey, and Twilight Princess being the console games, and then Borderlands 2 and 3 as the PC games. We also did a one-off Minecraft video and two rounds of Worms Inbetweenie.
Who knows how 2020 is going to go. We plan on continuing Borderlands 2 and 3 and also Twilight Princess. We have ideas on what we want to do after Twilight Princess, but there's heaps of Borderlands to go through and so we're not too fussed. We usually get it sorted out near the end of the series. We'll also probably do a SAIMstralia Day video, but we haven't discussed it yet. It's been difficult the last few years, but we haven't been looking super hard.
Overall, 2019 was our second best year of all time, second to 2015 which isn't too far ahead of where we've been in the last year. It's hard to predict the future, so we can only go with our plans and hope that things work out. Optimistically, I think that 2020 could beat 2015 and become our best year. On the other hand, we did have the 2016 experience but it's hard to be sure of what contributed to the results that year.
The first episode of Twilight Princess will drop on Wednesday, and so episodes will go up on that day as well as Saturday every week. Because of this, we've also swapped the first two days of the week so that Mario Odyssey is the first series, then Borderlands 3 the second, and Twilight Princess the third. Then we do that again for six days per week of content, with each series getting two episodes per week.
We didn't want to change the schedule too much, but also didn't want to put any current series on a haitus to accommodate for TP. When I think about it, Borderlands 2 is on a haitus just because we have more episodes of Borderlands 3 to post. When that runs out, we're gonna get back to Borderlands 2 so that the story happens chronologically for me. But also we'll get more Erren so that will be nice.
Some of you might be wondering if we're concerned about the Federal Trade Commission of the United States and the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act in regards to pressing issues with YouTube and the settlement that they've agreed to. We are, but we're not doing anything too big until we're sure of whether we should make any changes.
But anyway, Twilight Princess was a good lot of fun and it will be a great series. Look forward to that!
Ihasnotomato and I (Mabeanie) recorded a conversation for an upcoming series on one of my channels last night, but we also organised the day that we will record The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U released in 2016.
This has been five years in the making as first of all we had to recover from the loss of what we thought was a great recording session in late 2014. For those who don't know, we originally recorded Twilight Princess for the Gamecube, but our audio recording for our voices failed and so we lost that crucial bit that makes our videos our own. We were very upset, but we wanted to eventually come back to it. I think that we will discuss the original recording session at the start of this Twilight Princess HD one. Then we can move on, talk about the game, and have a good time. Both of us are quite fond of the game.
Anyway, that's your update. As usual, we will continue to post Borderlands 3 and Mario Odyssey three times a week, but when Twilight Princess starts you can be sure that it will be in there.
After the rough year that 2019 has been for us, but certainly not the toughest year, we are now in a position to be posting lots of great videos on a regular basis.
My computer issues are over, but my days of spare time are irregular. Nevertheless, we have Stephanie to do the editing and all we have to do is record Mario Odyssey.
So look forward to some more Mario Odyssey content by the end of next week, and we'll be pumping out heaps of stuff. We'll also be recording The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess later this month as planned. The year has just flown by.
We haven't been uploading videos for the last few weeks because of the following things:
My computer issues mean that I can't do much work for SAIM.
Stephanie is on holiday.
Ihasnotomato has his own stuff to do, did a lot of the work for a while but got tired of it, and now we're just waiting for my computer problems to end.
2019 began as a year that we had planned out a little bit. We finished Mario Sunshine, did Metroid Fusion, have been doing Borderlands 2 for most of the year, and now it looks like we won't be able to do a Borderlands 3 series within the first week of the release date, but hopefully my computer issues will be over before November, when we will started recording and posting episodes of our Twilight Princess series.
It has been a good while since I last posted, but SAIM has been going well. Both Ihasnotomato and I are busy/lazy people and weren't uploading for a week recently. Nevertheless, we had a recording session last Friday and did more Metroid Fusion (finished it!) and Borderlands 2 (about 2/3rds through it now).
Ihasnotomato has been watching long breakdowns of the gradual decline of Game Grumps, because everybody needs something to make them sadder. I don't know, I guess he relates to it because he has tuned out of them since 2017 or something. Nevertheless, he informed me that we need to get our videos to be a good quality because like Game Grumps, not every one of our videos are good, and so we should try to make it so that every time anybody tunes into our channel, they get some good content. So we've decided to just go with the flow for our videos, which means that our editor Stephanie has to make a cut whenever we stop talking or struggle to get through a part of the game.
I've called this blog post "The road to November" because that month we will start posting episodes of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. We have also started taking that into consideration when we decide what game to do next for the Console Gaming Series. I realise now that we should determine the exact date that we want to start posting episodes of the series so that we can organise everything around it. At the moment, all we know is that we want to play a game that will only take a few months to finish in case it overlaps with Twilight Princess.
The 25th of November 2014 was when Twilight Princess was recorded originally, and five years later we are aiming for Tuesday the 26th of November 2019 to be the date that the first episode is posted.
Now that's all cleared up, that's my post done. See you in six years.
Hey guys, I've had a sudden moment of extreme frustration,
One of myself and Liam's best recordings failed (Zelda: Twilight Princess) when I went to edit the recordings into episodes. While the video recording was fine, the audio had screwed up hugely. Instead of what we actually recorded there was static sound. I think it's something to do with my setup because it's happened before. I have the microphone (Samson Meteor Mic) plugged into a Doctor Who TARDIS USB hub, and that is plugged into the computer. I did some google searching and found this forum discussion (http://forum.ventrilo.com/showthread.php?t=30410) and the person has the same problem I do. So based on what they've said it's a sound card problem and replacing it fixed the issue. I have no clue as to what a sound card is, but I guess it's the thing that puts the sound into your computer. While the audio for Twilight Princess screwed up, the audio recordings for the other games we did were fine. So the problem is not constant, but happens occasionally.
So next time we record I will take precautions such as using devices not plugged into the computer to do the audio recordings. I'm very upset, but writing this post has calmed me down. Anyway, there will be videos from the new Console Gaming Series coming so buckle your belts up for a bumpy car fun time!
Hi All,
Mabeanie here to tell you all that I've got the Dazzle, Pinnacle, and everything set up for the new Console Gaming Series!
We're very excited because after Frank (Akirasora) left for the United States of America we've been struggling along after a sudden end to the old series. So I guess this can be called Console Gaming Series 2 where we are thinking about doing Zelda: Twilight Princess, some Sonic games and maybe some PlayStation 2 games that I have.
We look forward to it and the possibility is that by December we will have started uploading episodes of the new series.
